Three Artists, Three Lives

07/23/2016, The Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig presents correlating works by three groundbreaking German photographers: Capturing Time continues until 3 October 2016

Capturing Time is the first museum exhibition to consolidate photographs by Ursula Arnold (1929–2012), Arno Fischer (1927–2011) and Evelyn Richter (*1930) – and to establish a correlation between their extensive oeuvres by showcasing representative selections of their work. Commonalities and differences become apparent along with each artist’s individual approach. The exhibition offers a chance to discover the oeuvres and life stories of three of the most important representatives of social documentary photography.

All three photographers sought out their subjects in everyday life, resulting in subjective images that captured their immediate surroundings. Each of them rejected the official visual language of GDR propaganda, and contradicted the authorised image of a socialist world. Instead, their work poses questions and tells multi-faceted stories hidden within each photograph.
