Every year in October, thousands of pilgrims head to Cerro de Sorte, a mountain in the north of Venezuela, to take part in the practices of the ecclectic María Lionza cult. Equipped with an M, Alejandro Cegarra followed one of the healing rituals.

Alejandro Cegarra
Born in 1989 in Caracas, Venezuela, where he still lives today. After studying photography, he worked as a photographer for the local newspaper Ultimas Noticias. Allejandro Cegarra started working freelance for the Associated Press in 2014 – in the same year he won the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award.
