Ali and Beyond

11/05/2015, Attended by the photographer, the Bildhalle Zürich is inaugurating on November 5, 2015, the first large solo exhibition in Switzerland of the Leica photographer Thomas Hoepker. The exhibition will run until January 16, 2016.

Hoepker’s new photo book, Big Champ, will also be presented at the vernissage. His previous book, Champ, with iconic images of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, appeared in 2012. The book was printed three times and completely sold out, so Big Champ is now appearing with additional, and till now unpublished photos. In addition to photographs of Ali, the exhibition Ali and Beyond presents some of the photographer's earlier works, as well as excerpts from his Heartland series about America.

“Nothing is as interesting as reality,” the Magnum photographer and Leica Hall of Fame member once said. With his precise composition and incredible visual sense, Hoepker has had an indelible impact on German photo journalism. He was the first German to become a member of the Magnum Photos Agency in 1989, and was its president from 2003 to 2007. He was a fixed member of the Stern magazine team for decades.
