Blind Spots

06/13/2017, The Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur is hosting Blind Spots, an exhibition of works by Dominic Nahr, up until October 8, 2017. Freed from the journalistic serviceableness of daily news reporting, Nahr’s pictures offer impressive imagery and deliberate composition. The hard facts of international trouble spots serve exclusively as an outer framework, to deeply immerse himself into the lives of the people.

The pictures that make up the exhibition take viewers to four African countries that are continuously threatened by deterioration: South Sudan, Somalia, Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Blind Spots also deals with the significance of photography within the media system and its representation of poverty and terror: what can, what must a photograph show? And what fora do photographs need to capture our attention?

Dominic Nahr was born in Switzerland in 1983 and grew up in Hong Kong. He already began working as a free-lance photographer while studying film in Toronto. He has received many honours, including the 2009 Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award. Nahr has been published among others in TIME, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, Stern and LFI.
