Drumbeat of Modernism

06/07/2017, The Paukenschlag der Moderne exhibition presents works by Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy, El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko, Raoul Hausmann and Umbo. The exhibition will be on display at the Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerk in Cottbus from July 1 to September 3, 2017.

It shows over 80 key modern pieces belonging to the Barbara and Horst Hahn collection. The significance for 20th century art of the artists included in this exhibition can not be appreciated enough. Their interconnected effect, and their work – that was mutually nurturing –, conveyed the ideas of modernism to photography.

The immediate expression of the times following World War I, was manifested in their “Neuen Sehen” (New seeing) style. The foundations of this new aesthetic imagery are still valid today.
