11/15/2017, Following the exhibition’s great success in Hamburg, Frankfurt-am-Main, Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Ghent, Porto and Madrid, the collection of works by famous Leica photographers will now be presented in Rome under the title of I Grandi Maestri. 100 Anni di fotografia Leica.
The exhibition focuses on the revolutionary transformation brought about by a technical invention: the original Leica. It is the first presentation specifically designed to try and outline the profound impact that the introduction of this highly manageable camera had on the world of photography. Rather than addressing the camera’s history in itself, the main focus is on the visual revolution that came as a direct result of this groundbreaking invention.
The showcase encompasses around 400 images by famous Leica photographers, among them René Burri, Thomas Hoepker, Bruce Gilden, Christer Strömholm, Bruce Davidson, F.C. Gundlach, Fred Herzog, William Eggleston, and many more.
In homage to the winner of this year’s Leica Hall of Fame Award, the show in Rome will also feature a selection of works by Gianni Berengo Gardin, who received the award in recognition of his outstanding life’s work. His images will be complemented by documentary materials such as books, magazines, cameras and films.
I Grandi Maestri. 100 Anni di fotografia Leica will be open daily at the Complesso del Vittoriano – Ala Brasini from 16 November 2017 to 18 February 2018.
