(Im)possible to see: North Korea

07/29/2017, The exhibition (Im)possible to see: North Korea, currently on display at Moscow’s Lumière Brothers Center for Photography, encompasses explorations of the mysterious Asian country by a number of leading contemporary photographers.

How can the medium of photography help us gain an understanding of one of the world’s most isolated nations? Prompted by this question, the curators compiled a selection of more than 70 photographs by renowned artists such as Eddo Hartman, Eric Lafforgue, Martin Parr and Wang Guofeng.

In addition, the exhibition also features images taken by Soviet photographers during the second half of the last century – allowing the viewer to see the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea from an entirely different cultural and temporal perspective.
