LOBA 2017

09/13/2017, Last night, the winners of the 37th Leica Oskar Barnack Award were honoured at the St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin, while the exhibition of the contest’s winning and shortlisted works opened its doors at the city’s New School for Photography.

Around 2700 photographers from 104 countries participated in this year’s competition. A jury of high-ranking international experts proceeded to select twelve finalists and two winners.  

The Main Award went to Terje Abusdal for his project Slash & Burn. The Norwegian photographer receives a cash prize of 25,000 euros along with a Leica camera system worth 10,000 euros.

The winner of this year’s Newcomer Award is Ukrainian photographer Sergey Melnitchenko, who was honoured for his series Behind the Scenes. He stands to receive 10,000 euros as well as a Leica camera system to the value of 10,000 euros.

The touring exhibition will be on display in Berlin until 15 October 2017. In addition, all winning and shortlisted projects are showcased in the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2017 special edition of LFI, available at LFI-Shop.
