01/12/2018, From 13 January to 15 April 2018, the Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation in Berlin presents the group exhibition Nautilus – Snails, Shells and other Mollusks in Photography – comprising works by artists such as Herbert Bayer, Imogen Cunningham, Alfred Ehrhardt, Andreas Feininger, Florence Henri, Fred Koch, Herbert List, Lee Miller, Aenne Mosbacher, Edward Steichen, Otto Steinert, Josef Sudek and Edward Westo.
Photographers of the modern era were particularly fascinated by the ‘structural forms of nature’ – including not only plants and crystals, but also snail shells and conches. The Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation presents a selection of works entirely dedicated to this topic, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue. At the heart of the showcase is a collection of images originally published in Alfred Ehrhardt’s photo books Muscheln und Schnecken (Shells and Snails, 1941) and Geprägte Form (Shaped Form, 1968).
The exhibition was curated by Stefanie Odenthal and Christiane Stahl.
