Photography with Distinction

04/18/2017, The image Fleeing from Daesh by French photographer Frederic Lafargue has been selected as the Photo of the Year at the Istanbul Photo Awards 2017. Now in its third edition, the award drew 25,000 submissions from photographers worldwide, with an international jury once again determining the winners.

A new category was introduced at this year’s competition: the Young Photojournalist newcomer award, aimed at photographers under the age of 28. The winner is Hosam Salem, a freelance photographer based in Gaza, Palestine.

As well as the $10,000 Photo of the Year award and the $3,000 Young Photojournalist award, additional prize money to the total sum of $133,000 was distributed across eight different categories.
