RENÉ BURRI – COSMOPOLITAN

07/13/2017, In close collaboration with the Burri family, the Bildhalle in Zurich is presenting from August 24 to October 21, 2017, the first solo exhibition following the death of Switzerland’s best-known photographer.

René Burri produced some of the most iconic images of 20th century photographic history. A frequent traveller, the Magnum photographer and his striking picture reportages spirit us away to every corner of the world, delivery images that were always engaging, multi-layered and empathetic.

The exhibition at the Bildhalle will present an impressive selection of his signed, black&white and colour prints, which reveal both the compositional and dynamic aspects of his imagery, as well as the surprising components.

René Burri studied at the School for Applied Arts in his hometown of Zurich, Switzerland. From 1953 to 1955 he worked as a documentary film maker, and took his first pictures with a Leica while doing his military service. In 1955 he became part of the Magnum Photo Agency. Burri received the Dr. Erich Salomon Prize in 1988. He lived and worked in Zurich and Paris, where he died in 2014, aged 81.
