Socio-critical photography

06/09/2017, From June 9 to September 3, 2017, the Museum Fokwang is presenting the most recent project by the artist and photographer Peggy Buth. The photography and video works that make up the exhibition Vom Nutzen der Angst, tell a story about social ostracism in cities and suburbs. The subjects of artistic research were the suburbs of Paris as well as streets of houses in the US State of Missouri. For the exhibition at the Museum Folkwang, Buth extended the terrain for her documentary research to the Ruhr district, working in Essen and Duisburg.

Peggy Buth considers that urban spaces are places where the social and the economical are superimposed, forming and deforming them. With three chapters, Buth reports on social utopias and commercial interests, on inclusion and exclusion, on hope but also on discrimination and defamation.
