02/11/2017, Just three days remain to support Claudius Schulze’s kickstarter campaign towards a photobook dedicated to the theme of climate change!

In times of climate change, as the weather is getting wilder, catastrophe protectors play an increasingly important role. It’s a very big story: in recent decades hundreds of thousands of people worldwide have been affected by natural disasters.

Hamburg photographer Claudius Schulze travelled around Europe with a 4x5” large-format camera, documenting the state of nature throughout the continent, and showing how natural disaster protection has come a significant part of the landscape.

On his travels he photographed dikes, dunes and storm surge barriers on the Baltic Sea and the Atlantic, avalanche timbering, rockfall galleries and dams in the Alps and Pyrenees, and dikes along the banks of many large river. His photos represent a visual exploration that reveals how these constructions, protecting against climate change and threatening catastrophes, have become an indivisible part of the idyllic, European landscape.

The photo book is to be produced by Hartmann Books, with the support of and in collaboration with the Dutch photo book publishers Sybren Kuiper, the essayist Oskar Piegsa and Prof. Dr. Thomas Glade.
