Patrick Witty presents the work of Jošt Franko, a promising newcomer on the photography scene, in the Time Lightbox. Born in 1993, Franko began taking pictures at age 14. In 2010, the jury of the Slovenian Press Photo of the Year chose him for the Best Reportage category award. He was just 16 years old. The portfolio presented in Time shows pictures from his Swimmers and Shepherds series, both from 2010.

Jošt Franko
Jošt Franko was born in Slovenia in 1993. When he was 16 years old he won the Slovenian Press Photo of the Year in the Best Reportage category, with a series about his recently widowed grandmother. One year later, in 2011, he took part in the VII Photo Agency mentor-ship programme, becoming the youngest photographer ever to work with the agency. Since becoming of age, the documentary photographer concentrates on personal, long-term projects that focus on international social problem areas. His work has already received recognition from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and the TED Fellowshipt.
