The Japanese issue of Newsweek presents Jost Franko’s reportage Cotton Black, Cotton Blue, which he photographed with an M262. In 2015 and 2016, Franko followed the cotton trail, from the growing regions in Burkina Faso and in the USA, to the production facilities in Bangladesh and Romania, and finally the warehouses and sales floors in Great Britain and Slovenia.

Jošt Franko

Jošt Franko was born in Slovenia in 1993. When he was 16 years old he won the Slovenian Press Photo of the Year in the Best Reportage category, with a series about his recently widowed grandmother. One year later, in 2011, he took part in the VII Photo Agency mentor-ship programme, becoming the youngest photographer ever to work with the agency. Since becoming of age, the documentary photographer concentrates on personal, long-term projects that focus on international social problem areas. His work has already received recognition from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and the TED Fellowshipt.
