03/16/2018, Since 1992, Italian photographer Ernesto Bazan has spent a total of 14 years in Cuba to capture the Caribbean nation’s unique spirit. The early years were entirely dedicated to black and white photography: instead of the island’s pearl white beaches and vibrantly coloured houses, Bazan portrayed the lives of the Cuban people in a post-communist world.
The resulting series, titled Bazan Cuba, was followed by two more projects – Al Campo and Isla – in which Bazan once again captured Cuba’s agriculture, daily life and meditative landscapes in serene portraits. From 16 March 2018, a selection of images from these three series will be on display at the Instytut Fotografii Fort in Warsaw under the title Cuban Trilogy.
The exhibition is complemented by a workshop on the topic of image selection, held by Ernesto Bazan in collaboration with fellow artist Tomasz Tomaszewski. The event is scheduled for 17 and 18 March (from 10:00 to 18:00).
